The Golden Ratio

Beth McCormick writes about the upcoming Guesthouse yard sale: ‘Over the past few months we have been the lucky recipients of many donations. Hoot! hoot! Some of the donations we are not going to be able to use, so we have asked donors if we not be able to use the items, would it be ok to have a huge yard sale and put the proceeds towards our building fund. The response has been quite positive. We have booked Saturday August 20th, 5:30-1:30 (1 pm -1:30 pm clean up) as The Guesthouse Shelter Yard Sale date. August 10th, 9 am-12 pm and August 19th 9 am -12 pm as set up dates.

While we do have quite a few donations, I am now wondering if you have items hanging around the house that you don’t need or want anymore? Would you like to donate and bring them to the Administration building, 522 Elizabeth Street, to be put in the yard sale? Would you like to volunteer in the preparation of the yard sale or would you rather be here for the BIG day? Or both? So many questions, so much to ask…. If you would like to contribute in anyway please let me know directly if you have donations to bring in so we can arrange storage for the item until the yard sale. if you would like to volunteer, please click on the link below that works best for you. Again, many thanks to all.

#65. Duke Ellington, Satin Doll.
It was on this day [July 25] in 1788 that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart entered into his catalog the completion of one of his most beloved works, Symphony Number 40 in G Minor (sometimes called “The Great G Minor Symphony”). It was written in the final years of Mozart’s life, when things were not going well. An infant daughter had died a few weeks earlier, he had moved into a cheaper apartment, and he was begging friends and acquaintances for loans. But in the summer of 1788, he wrote his last three symphonies: Symphony Number 39 in E-Flat, Symphony in G Minor, and the Jupiter symphony. It is not known for sure whether Mozart ever heard any of these symphonies performed.’
Melody Gardot, So Long.
Return To Forever, Shadow Of Io.
Golden Eagle.
Ken Whiteley, Old Wind Blow.
Eliel Lazo, Funk That Mambo.

Plan for Painting Series: No. 32, March 9, 2001
Ron Martin (1943) redirected ‘the viewer’s relation to the object so that creative energy flowed from viewer to work, instead of from work to viewer, making the viewer an author-creator…. ”I like to feel that I could make a painting that is primarily about the experience of the experiencer”. The ”experience of the experiencer”, as against the authority of the artist and the alleged passive reception of the viewer, was under constant examination in … Op art.’ Abstract Painting In Canada, 280, 283. (Shown are four of his Plans For Painting [oil on canvas]. Albers did variations and trials using screen-printing. i guess i do a similar thing with html.) More…
while searching for ron martin (from london, ontario), i came across another artist named ron martin (this one in buenos aries). such are the joys of serendipity.

Remember these words from this dead poet?

To The Virgins To Make Much Of Time
by Robert Herrick (1591-1674)
Gather ye rose-buds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles today,
Tomorrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of heaven, the Sun,
The higher he’s a-getting
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he’s to setting.
That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times, still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time;
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.

listening to an interview with bruce cockburn (cuz we’ll see him in a few weeks and cuz i’m revisiting my understanding of christianity so i wanna know, does he call himself a christian still? yes, but barely.). which led me to charles williams (1886-1945, pictured above) and the concept of co-inherence.

went down a rabbit-hole chasing svg curveto (no space or hyphen). why? because i wanted to learn how to draw spirals in svg.
