Faith In Things Unseen

<note to self>

spiritualiuty+ecology=deep ecoologythis post starts with ‘deep ecology‘ and ends with ‘the collective unconscious‘: faith in things unseen. can you see how life is connected? can you see how minds are unified? one is material and one is spiritual, or is each both? ecology itself is based on biology, which is based on physics and math, ‘hard’ sciences. but even science requires faith in things unseen.

ws merwinPoet, translator, and environmental activist WS Merwin (1927-09-30) ‘moved to Hawaii and set about restoring a former pineapple plantation on Maui to its original rainforest state…. He said: “We try to save what is passing, if only by describing it, telling it, knowing all the time that we can’t do any of these things. The urge to tell it, and the knowledge of the impossibility. Isn’t that one reason we write?” ‘

jean-vanierJean Vanier writes, ‘People are now drawn toward cities large and complicated enough to meet our economic desires, and toward families small and portable (and even disposable) enough to make mobility possible…. The destruction of intimate community has been at our own hands…. As much as we yearn for community, we yearn even more for the social and economic prizes that individual mobility can bring.’

mandalalooking at mandalas, which in jungian psychology, help with the decisive question: is a person ‘related to something infinite or not? that is the telling question of … life. only if we know that the thing which truly matters is the infinite can we avoid fixing our interest upon futilities, and upon all kinds of goals which are not of real importance.’ [memories, dreams, reflections, 325.] i used to draw pictures with nothing but coloured circles. now i know why.
