What Is Life?

<note to self>

rainwater may seem separate or differentiated into individual ripples and waves above but it’s all connected below. it’s all just water. it’s even connected to the rain, which has been falling for billions of years and will fall for billions more, a long, long time–but what is time? in a way, past, present, and future are just human stories. Rain_forest_Norway-from-wcperhaps the reality is it’s all one, that there is only the present, the ‘now’ as we sometimes call it. in our modern story, however, our reality is differentiated. it has time and matter. we have water and its components. the hydrogen in the water came from the big bang and the oxygen from a long-ago supernova. the hydrogen and oxygen in me were/are/will be/whatever in dinosaurs, bacteria, rocks, raindrops, rivers, oceans, waves, etc.–water that is separate yet connected.
