half-life

why does a half-life of a few hundred thousand years bother me
when we in the same measure talk of dinosaurs,
talk of ourselves,
talk of the end of everything,
the beginning too,
the all

even plastic is made to last forever
but it won’t–
earthquakes and plate tectonics will take care of that,
the sun will take care of that,
the universe will take care of that,
the all again

my half-life was over years ago–
still, i’m radioactive–
did kps know he wouldn’t reach his,
not even close?
of course he didn’t–
did he know that his last day, like mine, like yours,
would be all?
