okay, things seem desperate. they are: tar sands, cons in ‘power’. but we also see local happenings that weren’t here even four years ago. everywhere. across the country, around the globe. paul hawken saw it and wrote about in blessed unrest. so did bill mckibben, author of eearth and the face of 350.org.
hawken quoted adrienne rich:my heart is moved by all i cannot save: so much has been destroyed i have cast my lot with those who, age after age, perversely, with no extraordinary power, reconstitute the world.
coincidence? are we merely behaviourly driven to find meaning in a meaningless universe? no. i can’t explain, but there is something larger. intimations of meaning keep returning, inexhaustible, like photons.
driven? i choose. i cast my lot ‘con los pobres de la tierra’ who ‘reconstitute the world’. i am very, very fortunate to be rich and well-educated. that could make me poor and stupid, though. i have to be careful and at the same time not grasping with the gifts given me.
