the circle and the line

in some cultures, the line represents the masculine (obviously) and the circle the feminine.

the line can also represent linear thinking and the circle circular thinking

combine the two and you get cyclical thinking–patterns that begin and end.

for example, ‘in the beginning/once upon a time, yadda yadda yadda, then yadda yadda yadda, then yadda yadda yadda, the end.’

sound familiar? the bible? fairy stories?

or the structure of dna

or the 13.7 billion-year pattern of evolution

or patterns in programming

is this new? is this the future? only time will tell. does cyclical thinking allow for modest use of technology and for religion? arts and science? intuition and rationality? what is modest? are we immodest? is it even possible for us to be modest, or should we go all out, hellbent for leather, or are some of us the conservative and some of us the other, and some of us just grey lumps?
