a diff b/w berry and dawkins (and their camps)

one believes in god and that evolution has meaning and the universe purpose, whereas the other is an atheist and that evolution–and life, the universe, and everything–is meaningless

but can you be an atheist and still believe that evolution has meaning and the universe purpose?–not likely–if you accept berry’s 12th principle: ‘The newly developing ecological community needs a mystique of exaltation and finds it in the renewal of the great cosmic liturgy, which celebrates the new story of the universe and its emergence through evolutionary processes.’ evolution, then is part of a story–‘the great cosmic liturgy’–which implies a priest or storyteller and thus a god or an agent.

still, is an external god necessary or even possible in a unified universe?
