holes

there are manmade, mansized holes in the asian and african hillsides and on the ground, thousands of years old, evidence of mining and delving and the quest for power.

tailings ‘ponds’ large enough to be seen from space may be our modern equivalent, for we continue to mine, and long, long after we’ve found what we came for, our wasteful evidence will remain.

but now, thousands of years later, the holes are bigger, more devastating. we may be causing damage that, like nuclear waste, lasts for many, many generations. power is about nowadays, but like a cancer it’s blind to the future and deaf to the past.
