so what happens now?

‘so what happens now?’ wonders juan peron in evita. the local nice weather has made people complacent. it’s like anything: if it ain’t broke, why fix it? but nice is only local. globally, it’s not nice–tornadoes, calving glaciers, melting ice caps, starving polar bears, thawing permafrost that ain’t so perma, droughts where it should be wet, floods where it should be dry, earthquakes wreaking massive havoc, tsunamis washing innocents out to sea, mass die-offs or migrations, ceaseless wars. still, there is hope. maybe this nice weather is a respite, the lull before the storm. maybe we’re smarter than we act, when push comes to shove. maybe that’s what’s happening.
